Threads of Voices in the Dark

Always Watching

You were always watching. Would you wipe my tears away? You can’t see the light, but I’m in the dark. Your hands are in mine. A leader isn’t the loudest voice, just an unseen presence. Even miles away, you’re alive in many places. Words are locked between your teeth, but still, you speak. Don’t fear the struggle.

“Every hand that feeds is bitten if it steals from hungry mouths.” Your lies are old and known. Please don’t lie to me. Endless, sleepless nights – baring my teeth. I apologise; my love leaves scars. Alone for so long, I’ve forgotten how not to be. An echo in an empty room, words without listeners.

Innocent once, what have I become? Your love feels suspicious and undeserved. Fearful you’ll discard me. Tears fall, meaningless. Now, you’re a stranger to my secrets. I’d rather choke on silence than show my vulnerability. I can’t bark if I can’t bite.

I saw you sink your teeth into my dead flesh. This isn’t freedom. Stop, stop, stop. My mind is in an “introverted war.” Craving solitude yet longing to be touched. You forgot to let me in again. Tomorrow is another day. It’s not your fault; I forgive what you wouldn’t.

“I dream too much and don’t write enough. I’m trying to find God everywhere.” More than your perception. I’d bleed for anything that held me right. I’m dirty, infinitely dirty. I scream for purity.

They asked, “Who’s going to let you?” I said, “Who’s going to stop me?” How cruel, left here without you. You could slit my throat, and I’d apologise for bleeding on your shirt.

In the end, you were right. I just needed to lighten up a bit more.

Remaining Fragments of a Bleeding Heart.
