Potential Consequences of Deforestation
Loss of Biodiversity
Deforestation can lead to the extinction of countless species which depend on forests for their survival. It is estimated that 80% of the world’s terrestrial species reside in forests. If we let deforestation spiral out of control, biodiversity loss could be devastating and irrevocable.
Climate Change
Trees play a pivotal role in absorbing greenhouse gases. If deforestation continues unabated, the concentration of these harmful gases in the atmosphere will increase, accelerating climate change and global warming.
